  • JUVÉDERM Lip Filler (Augmentation)

Lips feature an independent and sophisticated fibrous muscular structure that allows fine manipulation and extensive movement. This complex of muscles is called the orbiscularis oris and is found only around the mouth. The orbiscularis oris, also known as a sphincter muscle, allows us to form the correct expressions to form a smile and frown, to talk and laugh, as well as to eat and sip. Juvéderm® for lips can be used to fill in some of these smile or frown lines.

As we age, our lips naturally begin to lose the elasticity and plumpness that we associate with youth.  Juvéderm® is one of the most popular methods used by medical professionals to restore lips to a youthful, fuller appearance. After lips have begun to lose their shape, Juvéderm® is able to help restore plumpness and elasticity through the properties of its main component, hyaluronic acid.

Once it has been injected, the hyaluronic acid integrates with natural tissues and enhances the fat content of a patient’s lips. Regular follow-up injections allow you to maintain plumper lips and reduce the appearance of aging.

  • JUVEDERM for Lips

Juvéderm is an FDA approved hyaluronic acid dermal filler that is designed to enhance facial features, restore lost volume, and smooth out wrinkles and folds. Juvéderm is the go to brand of lip fillers because it provides a sensual, natural look. Some other benefits of Juvéderm for the lips include: Adding volume and definition, correcting asymmetries, improving contours, reducing lines around the lips, providing instant and long lasting results, and most patients are able to have the treatment performed over their lunch break with no downtime. Hyaluronic acid occurs naturally in the body with most patients responding well with little to no side effects. These side effects could include mild swelling, bruising, and redness. They typically resolve within three weeks.

Within the Juvéderm® line, the most used products for lips are Juvéderm® Ultra XC and Juvéderm Volbella® XC.

    • Juvéderm® Ultra XC is injected into the lips and perioral area for lip augmentation. It is also injected into the facial tissue for the correction of moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds, such as nasolabial folds.
    • Juvéderm Volbella® XC is injected into the lips for lip augmentation and correction of perioral lines, and injected into the undereye hollows to improve the appearance of undereye hollows.

  • Loss of Volume and Definition

Many people notice their cheeks have lost the youthful contours in their midface. When you add cheek filler it helps restore the youthful shape to the face.

  • Pronounced Nasolabial Fold

The nasolabial fold, which is also referred to as ‘smile lines’, often loses volume and firmness as we age.

  • Cosmetic Enhancement

Often getting cheek filler is a cosmetic choice that many people in their early 20s and 30s opt for simply to create more dimension in their face

  • The results of cheek fillers last for months or years, but the result isn’t permanent, so on the off chance you change your mind about the filler, you won’t be stuck with the results

  • The injections can be modified after treatment, which means you can add more filler to the site or have some dissolved until you achieve your desired result.

  • Cheek fillers carry a low risk of any serious complications or infection

  • Recovery is quick and many people find they can go right back to work or their regular activities after treatment

Frequently Asked Questions

What kinds of fillers are used?

Today, there are many different fillers to chose from. After trying several hyaluronic acid manufacturers over the years, we primarily use the Juvederm family. We offer four products from the Juvederm line: Volbella, Volift, Voluma, and Volux (in order from thinnest to thickest). Volux is most commonly used for chin augmentation. Voluma is used in cheeks for volume replacement. Volbella is  specifically designed for the under-eye area and filling lines. Volift is used for lip augmentation and some areas of the cheeks

About JUVÉDERM Fillers

One of the most popular products used in the field of aesthetic medicine is Juvéderm®. It is an injectable gel facial filler that is able to give patients the benefits of improved skin and anti-aging effects but differ in several important ways. This FDA and Health Canada approved “next-generation” dermal filler, based on hyaluronic acid, is a naturally occurring substance in your skin. A single treatment can provide a subtle to dramatic improvement of your appearance, without surgery. Beauty O'Clock Medical Spa is a provider of Juvéderm® Fillers in Aurora, Richmond Hill and Newmarket.

How does JUVÉDERM Filler Work?

Juvéderm® uses hyaluronan to address wrinkles, facial contours, enhance the size and shape of the lips and can even smooth our scars and indentations. Juvéderm® can restore fats and elasticity that is lost, not just in skin, but also in lip tissue. For aging, the goal of our injectors is to simply replace the amount of HA in your skin that has been lost with every passing year.

The primary ingredient of Juvéderm® injectable filler is hyaluronic acid (HA), a substance that loves water, which is perfect because your skin is made up of about 70% water! An injection of Juvéderm® into the problem areas on your face introduces fresh HA into your skin.

Once injected, HA molecules bind with the naturally present water in your skin and each swells substantially. This swelling is what plumps up your skin to fill out those unwanted wrinkles, creases and noticeable hollows. This same effect is what also helps to modify facial contours that you want reshaped or more defined, such as your cheeks, nose, jawline, or chin.

Another great effect of a Juvéderm® injection is that it improves the overall moisture levels in your skin, something that older patients can definitely appreciate. Higher moisture levels means that your complexion will look more vibrant and healthier as well.

What areas can be treated?

Any skin can be treated, but the most common areas treated are nasolabial folds (from the nose to the corners of the mouth), labiomental folds (from the corners of the mouth down to the chin), upper cheeks (cheek apples), prejowl sulcus (the indentation that forms in front of jowls), upper lip (smoker's) lines, and the glabellum (between the eyebrows).

It is also used for lip augmentation and to fill depressed scars.

The backs of hands are injected to disguise prominent veins and tendons

Who is a good candidate for dermal fillers?

Almost everyone from 20 (lip augmentation) to 80 (volume loss) could benefit from dermal fillers. Most patients are in their 40s, 50s, and 60s.

How are treatments done?

Two techniques are used.

For deeper volumizing treatments a cannula is often used. Cannulas look like needles, but they have blunt tips. A cannula is inserted through a single needle poke on each side, most commonly placed beside the mouth. The cannula can then be moved under the skin to fill most of the face (cheeks, nasolabial folds, labiomental folds, prejowl sulcus). Cannulas offer huge advantages over standard needles because only a few needle holes need to be created to treat the entire face. This means less discomfort. As cannulas are advanced they push tissue aside rather than cutting as needles do. This significantly reduces the chances of bruising and damage to blood vessels and nerves.

The other technique is to use standard needles. They are most commonly used to fill lines where injections need to be placed very superficially with great precision.

The amount used depends on the area being treated. In most cases, this is 0.5ml (half a syringe) to 5.0ml (five syringes). Up to 15ml can be used in one session. That might sound like a lot of filler, but 5ml is one teaspoon and 15ml is one tablespoon.

Nasolabial folds go from the nose down to the corner of the mouth. Labiomental folds go from the corner of the mouth down to the chin. The prejowl sulcus is the indentation that forms in front of jowls.

Do dermal filler treatments hurt?

There is no simple answer to this question, because pain response and tolerance is different from person to person. The degree of discomfort also varies from area to area and the depth of treatment.

When cannulas are used (see previous question), pain is minimal.

When needles are used, we recommend the use of topical anesthetic creams.

Dental blocks (injections of local anesthetic) can be done when we do lip augmentation. This freezes the nerves that feed the entire area and eliminates pain. But the discomfort of administering the dental block is usually not worth it.

How long do treatments take?

Most procedures take about half an hour. Complex procedures requiring many syringes injected into many areas can take an hour.

When are the results seen, and how long do dermal fillers last?

Beneficial effects of dermal fillers can be seen immediately following the first treatment.

Dermal fillers do not provide permanent improvement. The duration of benefit depends on the substance used, the area injected, and the person injected. Results vary from person to person and even from treatment to treatment in the same person.

Typically, Juvederm fillers last from 9 to 18 months.

What are the side effects of dermal fillers?

There are very few side effects to dermal fillers.

Bruising can occur.

Mild swelling and redness often occur. It usually resolves in a few hours, but it can persist for up to two weeks.

On rare occasions redness, tenderness, and swelling develops a few weeks after treatment.

Nodules can form. These are inflammatory lumps under the skin that can last for months. They are rare.

What are the alternatives to dermal fillers?

There are several treatment options that can improve your skin, depending on the nature of the problem, including Morpheus8, chemical peels of varying strengths, microneedling, IPL and laser skin resurfacing, and surgical facelifts.

How much do fillers cost?

Cost of JUVÉDERM Injections:

It's only natural to want to know about price. But before you ask this question, you should ask about the skill and experience of the injector. You aren't buying a bag of flour. You are purchasing a complex service.

Now back to price. There is no easy answer to this. It depends on the type of filler used and the number of syringes required per session. Everyone is different.

There are 5 products in the Juvederm line ranging from $325 to $600 per syringe.

The only way to give you a good estimate of cost is to see you in consultation so the type of product and number of syringes can be estimated.
